Spanish Ministry
The Spanish ministry at First Christian Church has as its goal reaching out to the Spanish speaking people in the greater Johnson City area. The city is exploding with the great increase of Spanish speaking people and we as a church are paving the way in establishing a ministry where they can grow into a nurturing relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. We are seeking to make one people out of many nations where there will be no nationality, race, color, education, wealth, sex, nor anything that exists as a barrier between the people of God, but where we can all be one and the same in Christ Jesus.
Areas of Ministries:

How does this ministry function?
We seek to build relationships through our Aros de Amistad on Fridays and our time of worship on Sundays. Relationships are key for this ministry. Most Spanish speaking people in this area do not have their close families with them. This makes it very hard for them to have a community where they can trust and share their lives with others. We offer an atmosphere where this trust can be built and sharing can take place-trust in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord and sharing with Him and this community of believers here at First Christian Church.
Ways you may volunteer to help this ministry:
-
Participate in the worship service by attending or being part of the worship fellowship team (you do not need to know Spanish!)
-
Work with the children during any of our meeting times (see above). You can work in the nursery, or 2-12 year olds, or teenagers and young adults.
-
Commit to daily or at least once a week pray for the ministry.
-
Get involved in the lives of the Spanish-speaking people through fellowship. Visit them, learn Spanish from them, partake of some good Spanish eating, consider hosting a family for one night and let them host you as well.
-
In the summer months, check out the exciting Cardinals minor league baseball ministry that the church has with members of our Spanish community.
In addition to offering spiritual nourishment, we as a church at First Christian Church also seek to minister to their emotional and physical needs. We offer the "Friends Speak" program (English as a Second Language) in order to help them adjust to this community and be part of mainstream society. A good English language skill improves employment opportunities, enhances education, and improves their ability to get involved in their community and the life of the church.
Come and get involved, you will be glad that you did!
